Twitter taking over Digg

5 February 2009 12 views No Comment

Twitter taking over Digg and I predict now that by the end of 2009, Twitter will be on main street and probably double in size. What is Twitter? In a basic organic explanation, its MSN messenger on steroid or you can just call its a micro blog.

You will be surprise of how many people don’t know whats twitter, Digg or Stumbleupon is.  I know of people who hold a degree in computer science and don’t know what Twitter, Digg or Stumbleup is.  Not to hold anything over their head, I’m just making a point that my information maybe simple but many other or not up to the time or with the high tech trend.

Twitter has become a popular pastime for many who like to update their daily thoughts and activities, as well as for the voyeurs who just enjoy reading the tweets. Last week, the market share of visits to Twitter surpassed Digg for the first time since launch and was ranked #84 (one above Digg at #85) in the Computers and Internet category. A big driver of traffic to Twitter last week was around the US Airways plane crash in to the Hudson River last Thursday, driving many posts and updates about the situation. One photo of the plane taken by Janis Krums, was viewed by many people via Twitter and was subsequently used across a number of traditional media outlets.
